Could This Be No. 10?

The boys and I went to see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian on Saturday. For those who don't know, the it continues the story of the four Pevensie children: Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy. They are the kings and queens of Narnia, but Peter is the "high king."

Later that day, I gave Ethan and Tristan instructions to clean their room. The room needed to be clean, I told them, or they couldn't go to the beach on Monday. I said that they were the kings of the their room, and this was their task.

But who among them would be the "high king?"

Ethan immediately said, "I'm the high king! I'll supervise!"

I pointed out that, in the movie, Peter (the high king) was the first into battle, the one who did the hardest part of any task. Ethan and Tristan thought about this for awhile. However, the room did not get cleaned.

On Sunday, Ethan and Tristan had a surprise for me. They had cleaned their room. "Wonderful!" I said. "Who was the high king?"

They each hesitated for a moment. Then each child pointed to himself.

On Monday (Memorial Day), we did indeed go to the beach. Ethan and I built Cair Paravel in the sand, and then (with help from his cousin), he defended it against the rising tide. However, just like Cair Paravel in the movie, this one was destined to end up in ruins.
