Hike Report: Sycamore Canyon

Last week at Sycamore Canyon, a group of us went for a hike. Having hiked a number of peaks over the past several weeks, my intention was to take a leisurely stroll up the canyon itself; however, when we came to the junction for the Overlook Trail, that is the path our group chose to take.

The trail is not long. Our group of several adults and small children had no problem making it to the top. The trail, which is 3/4 mile to the top, rises less than 1,000 feet.

The hills were covered with wildflowers. I don't know the name of this one, but there were many more like it covering some of the slopes. I think it only grows here, along this part of the California coast, and on some of the channel islands just offshore.

A slight offshore breeze kept the fog far out at sea. We thought that perhaps we'd be able to spot some migrating whales from here, but none were seen.
