In Training

... The book I read (in case you were wondering) was Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. I mention this because ever since I finished it, I keep thinking about how the butler (whose name is Butler) keeps falling back on his "training" when it seems that he might be otherwise tempted to make a wrong move in a tense moment. I've been thinking about how athletes train, soldiers train, etc. But what about Christians? If soldiers train for war, shouldn't we be training for peace/love? Peace and love (agape love, that is) don't just happen. They have to be nurtured, practiced. If we want to be people of peace and love, we must train ourselves in the ways of peace and love. If we expect peace and love to overcome war and hatred, then our training must be intense.

I love it when a good story gets me thinking. And right now, I'm thinking that there's enough to this idea for both a newsletter article and a column for the local newspaper. I'll post those two things here in a couple of weeks when they're published.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Artemis Fowl books! That's one set that Dylan and I were still reading together when he was older. They are funny, charming, just a titch naughty, but the kid's heart is (usually) in the right place. And if you've ever wondered why dwarves have long underwear with the button flap ... wonder no more! HEE!!!
I can't wait to hear how Ethan like the series!
